This was the best DW I've been too. :D I was SO happy we finally convinced some friends to come with us. They had never been and were a little skeptical. Thought maybe we were 'blowing it out of proportion' when we had talked about previous ones.
SHOOT!! they didn't even make it to saturday night when they were planning their November DW trip!!!!
One couple has been together for 18 years and said they have NEVER been so relaxed and able to be themselves!!!
Thanks to EVERYONE (Lita, Queens, FPAers) for making this DW the Greatest.
So LOOK OUT EUREKA......Kansas has wind of you!!!
Love you all

Darci,
I am glad you and your friends had a great time! Especially after the funny start you had at the Tradewinds!
It was great to meet you all! Even though I was with Kel trying to figure who was whom and in what room!
You all need to come back before the next diversity weekend, and be yourselves all the time, anytime!

Silly me.......and THANKS Aaron!!!
I didn't mention the TradeWinds! That was about the BIGGEST oversight I've ever had.
Kel and Lee (and Aaron) were the greatest Hosts we could have ask for.
and yes, the start was hilarious....and all worked out.
It was great meeting you Aaron and I'm sure we will meet up again in ES.

I wished my partner and I could have been there, but we are planning to go in the fall. We both had our children home for that weekend and couldn't go. A couple of weeks before that, we visited Eureka Springs for the first time and totally loved it and have never felt more at home or relaxed in public. We live about 4 hours away in N east Arkansas and there aren't any places around here we can go to. We do plan on making another Eurerka trip before Fall Diversity because we loved it so much. Hope to chat with some of you soon!--Angela and Lisa
:D
Hey Angela & Lisa!
Hope to get to meet you guys in November. You'll have a great time at DW! This last one was our first time and we had a blast.
Welcome to the board!
I pulled a Carrie and didn't log in! That was me that posted to you last, Angela!
Sorry!

Thanks for the post. Too bad you are not closer. Where we live there aren't very many gays/lesbians to hang around with. We checked our calendar and will be children free that weekend so we are planning on getting to our first dw. We plan to come back to Eureka before that sometime this summer, which I absolutely can't wait. When we were there, we were made to feel so welcome. Where were some of the places you went? We ate at Divitos and Local Flavor. We went to try out Chelsea's but it wasnt what we thought it would be like. When we were there, the Coca Cabana was not open. Well, hope to chat with you soon.

Actually, I'm straight, but I have many gay & lesbian friends. I actually have a better time when I'm out with them!
DeVitos is my favorite restaurant in Eureka! Their food is wonderful!
My husband & I are planning another trip back soon so that he can get a tattoo from Carrie at Wild Child. I'm hoping to work that in around our anniversary in June. If you're there around that time, we'll have to meet at the Copa and have a drink.
:D Hi Angelisa, and WELCOME to eurekapride chitchat ! One of the reasons I bought eurekapride.com , was not only to promote for Diversity weekends information, but to let the GLBT folks KNOW they are welcome in Eureka ALL year long.......not just Diversity weekends. We have a large Gay/ Lesbian population here, and many GLBT owned businesses. Be who you are, or be who you want to be ! ( I have that saying on my www.copacabanaclub.com website as well )! Kind of like the commercial from the Olive Garden Restaurants......."when ya here, you're family".
Soon I will be adding many more sponsors to this site.....it is still in it's beginning stages, but it lets you know that soooooooo many businesss in Eureka Springs supports Diversity. These business owners want to take care of you while you are here, and are always willing to help, and answer any questions you might have.
There are many sraight people who come to this board as well........I am also one of them. (the word DIVERSITY covers alot of territory).
Let us know what we can do to make your trip to Eureka your perfect getaway, anytime of the year.
When you are in town, please stop by the Copa so I can say "Hi" to ya'll.
Lita
p.s.
There will be many more pics added to the website as of this wednesday from the Spring Diversity Celebration ! You will love it ! :D 8)

Hi Angelisa.....
I don't have to tell you how much you'll love ES, cause you've obviously been there, but on diversity weekend(DW), it is terrific!! We are from NE Kansas and have 1 gay/lesbian bar close and its 20 miles away. We, too have kids....3, however the last one is ready to graduate in May....so we'll be kid-less ;)
except for the grandkids now....one 16 mo, and one on the way....(but we can send them home)
So, I can relate to your situation. how old r your kids?
We've been to 3 DW and have loved them all....but also come to ES whenever we get a chance. We live 7 hrs away and occasionally, we look at each other friday after work and say 'Lets GO!!'
We had our wedding/union (whatever you want to call it) in 2000 with all 3 kids there. It was beautiful.
Hope to visit with you again soon!!
welcome to the board!!

This is the second time I tried to post this. The first time, I forgot to login and now I am typing this over. This post is in response to Dawn, Lita, and Chilehead because I couldn't figure out how to post individual replies. I want to thank all of you for being so welcoming because from where we are from, we don't have very many friends gay or straight we can be open with. We will be glad to chat with you and possibly meet up in Eureka. I don't works summers, but my partner does so we don't know when she will have weekends off, but we do plan on making at least one or two more trips before Fall diversity. As far as children Chilehead, I have a 8yrold son and 12 yr old daughter who live with their father and with us my partner has a 14yrold son and 12 yrold son. My children have been living with their father about as long as she and I have been together, but I hope they change their mind before too long, but my daughter has always been a daddy's girl, and that's why she moved. As I said before, thanks for the warm welcoming and hope to chat with you all soon!

Hi Angela and Lisa.
Sure hope I get to meet you in ES sometime...but for know, we'll just have to use the board!!
Me and my wife are SO fortunate to be surrounded by friends that aren't 'bothered' that we are together and 90% of them are straight. We live in a little town, pop 800....and some people wonder how we do it....our answer... "Do what??" we just live our lives like everyone else...
go to work, come home, cook, clean, mow the lawn, plant flowers.....
oh well, i've rambled enough....
later...

My mother brought me up believing that people are just people regardless of what they look like, what they believe or what they do. As long as someone has a kind heart and a good attitude, it shouldn't matter who they choose to spend their lives with!
I hope to meet you both someday soon!

Paragould is about 20,000+ people, but I don't think they are very open. Well, I have lived here about 2 years and it is like people mind their own business or something. I don't know any more people now than I did when I moved here. My girlfriend and I go everywhere together, we don't hold hands or kiss in public, but we go to Little league together, eat, shop, whatever. Noone pays us any mind. I guess that is good in a way. I work about an hour a way from home, because I am in education and my school is not open about gays/lesbians at all. Sometimes I wish that I could walk up to people and say, I am a lesbian, but I have to be realistic and tell myself, that the school system would not be tolerant. I also tell myself that it is noone's business who I live with. I can't say enough how amazing it felt to be in Eureka because it felt, for a lack of a better description, just like home. I don't know if I said before, but we stayed at the Peabody House, which was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Well, I guess I will go, talk to you all soon.
Angela and Lisa
Didn't you girls just love Faryl at Peabody? She's so sweet!
We stayed at her moms B&B, Inn at Rose Hall last September and met her while we were there. She invited us to come by and take a tour before we went home, so we did!
Which suite were you in?

I forgot what it was called, but it was one of the cottages directly behind the house. It had a little living room with a couch and tv, and the bedroom was upstairs. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Yes, Faryl was really nice. It didn't seem to bother her that there were two women checking into the honeymoon suite. She also gave us some good recommendations on where to go and eat. When we go back, we are going to try and stay at the Peabody again, it doesn't have to be the same room, but it would be nice. Well, I guess I will talk to you again later.
Angela and Lisa
Fortunately, most of Eureka is just like Faryl. Wouldn't the world be so much more wonderful if everyone just accepted each other!
You were in the Rivendell Cottage. That's the only one we didn't get to see.

Yes, you are right, the world would be a better place if they were. Lisa and I when we were in Eureka would try to pick out who we thought were gay and who weren't. Sometimes it would be pretty obvious and other times it wasn't. Well, actually we do that everywhere we go. There was a woman working in one of the shops we went in and asked us as we were checking out where we were from and if we were partners. That totally floored us because noone had ever done that before. She told us about DW and about this board. Well, I guess that is it for now.
