Sehr gut, Fraeulein Ginger! :)
Ich bin sehr stolz auf dich.
Hey you, wie geht es dir?
I heard you caught a nasty bug for a while. Hope your back to "normal" .
It's too bad you are not going to make it this DW, but there is always
November. By that time your German will be so good we can
show off and yodel together
You could do a Marlene Dietrich routine for your coming out performance
at the drag show.
Hey LeAnn, du sprichst Deutsch, oder?
Wer noch?

Nien Renate, Ich betrüge und gehe zu den Babel Fischen!!! LOL But I hear that Babel Fish isn't so great on sentence structure either!
I know a couple of phrases (greetings, etc.) in many languages! But, without going to Babel Fish I think I figured out what you were saying! Ginger is studying German and was feeling rather poopy! :)
Leslie took a few years of German in High School.....don't know how much of it she remembers (no one to practice it with)! You'll have to test her! LOL
Bis bald! 8 Tage und Zählen!
Froh glauben Sie besserem Ingwer! Mach weiter so! (your name is Ingwer in German I see)

---GuttenTag Fraeulein LeAnn.
---I'm trying to learn the 4 different forms of "the" right now. Have pity on me lol.
---Renate I have a question about "the" in German. My book says that Tisch und Stuhl are always "der Tisch" und "der Stuhl". Can they not also be linked with die und das? Warum es ist "der Hund" aber "die Katze?

Oh LeAnn Babelfish is hillarious.
Heck, LeAnn they made a Spice Girl out of our Ginger.
Ingwer of course is the German word for ginger, the spice.
Whenever I need a good laugh (and Sparky isn't posting anything:lol: ), I go to Babelfish and type in something.
It's a dangerous tool to use if you don't know anything about the language and if you want to impress somebody. It usually always backfires.
They translate everything literally and do not take anything into
consideration like slang or idioms.
I typed in "Eureka Springs" once and they translated (use German to English) the springs part. Springen is the German word for jumping, so it came back "Eureka jump".
They got that right!
It will be jumping on April 1 and 2, thats for sure!
Ginger, girl, it makes me so happy you are learning German.
The articles are a killer, I know and can be very confusing. The bad thing is that there are NO rules for them. What four versions are you learning. I only know of three:
der, die, das. (male, female and neutral).
Yes folks, every noun in German has a gender attached to it.
For example, dog (der Hund) is always male, cat (die Katze) is always female, and house (das Haus) is always neutral.
There is no reason why, that's just the way it is.
Silverware for example: knife (neutral), fork (female), spoon (male) ,
das Messer, die Gabel, der Loeffel
Der Tisch (table) and der Stuhl (chair) are always male.
Unless of course you are talking about more than one table or chair.
The plural version of the word requires a different article:
die Tische und die Stuehle
If you are talking about a little tiny, cute dog, the you would call it
das Huendchen (die Endung -chen und -lein macht alle Woerter klein
The article can also change depending what clause the sentence is that you are using the word in. For example:
The dog is under the table
Der Hund ist unter dem Tisch
Whenever you learn a new noun, make sure you also learn the article for that word.
I think that is enough for todays German lesson
Have fun,
Renate

Just so you all know.... I didn't use babel fish for anything I wrote. I did it all myself. So i messed up the translation, they didn't lol.
---Renate, the 4th form of the I am learning is the plural form "die". As for the different form of "the" attached to each noun..... it's CRAZY! I have CD's that help me with pronunciation. I have a book to help me read and write. I have no one to practice speaking it with. =[
---Es wird dunkel bald. Ich benötigen zu fttern der Hund

NO, no Ginger girl, I didn't try to imply that you went to babel fish.
I know that you have just started learning, so you did really well and
didn't mess the translation up the way babel fish would.
I will email you a list with helpful hints and tips for the use of the articles, but the best advice I can give you is to just learn the proper article right away with every noun.

Thanks Renate. I'm looking forward to getting them. Hopefully I can print them off and take them to work with me this evening.
