I finally got it finished!!! This "playing catch up" is for the birds!
Well, Saturday was a GREAT day! After turning in on Friday night, I slept like a log in that comfy Sherwood bed! I had all the good intentions of getting up early and going on the Historic Loop Walk with the rest of the gals! Well, even though my intentions were good, the alarm didn’t get set (thought Ann did that before she turned in)! Oops! I guess the ladies came by the room and knocked, but Mr. Quervo made me sleep so soundly that I didn’t hear them! :? I sat straight up in bed at 6:45 knowing that I was late! Then I played with my guilty conscious for a while thinking that maybe Leslie could drive me to catch up with them. But, um, Nick shoved donuts at us and that was the end! I ate the donuts and didn’t do the work first! I am BAD!!!!! But, it was just too much fun sitting there and having coffee with everyone, so I took the position of cheerleader and welcoming committee to those that did!
We all got dressed and some of us met over at the Smokehouse for breakfast! I just dearly love that place! Leslie now knows that I was NOT exaggerating when I talked up those biscuits! They ARE as big as a grapefruit!!! And we had so much fun playing “Name That Tune”! Sandy is so cool up there performing for us all! WE enjoyed our breakfast and then I had promised Carrie that I would stop by at the shop for a short visit before we headed out to the festival, so off we went!
It was so good to get a chance to visit for a bit! I really do miss my Carrie when I’m away! We chatted for about an hour or so and then I knew it was time to go……I had promised to get out there a little early to help and if I yakked any longer it wouldn’t be early anymore! :) So off to the festival we went! I would have loved to join in that unofficial official parade, but friendship called and I had to answer! (Love ya Carrie)
We found the festival with no problem! What a really great place to have some fun! We found ourselves a spot and settled ourselves in for the day! Things at the festival were still being set up……..Katie was busy hooking up equipment, Michael was getting ready to man the gate, Sparky was blowing up balloons, vendors were getting food ready……it was great!!! And then there was Lita! What can I say……you can’t keep a god woman down! She was hobbling around “gittin er done”!!!! Loved the cup holder Lita!! LOL Priceless!
We helped Sparky out and grabbed handfuls of balloons and went around to everybody to let them know we were selling them………and we did sell a few bunches! One little guy bought two bunches……we found out later that he was seeing if he could actually fly away! LOL A little hard to handle in the wind……but so much fun! We had a few bunches get away from us, but even had fun watching them float away! In the late afternoon that same little guy lost his and he plopped himself on the ground, rested his chin on his hands, and watched them intently! By the look on his face I think he was still thinking about flying with those balloons! Thanks Sparky for bringing all the cool stuff! 8)
All of us had a great time visiting out at the festival! It was good to see old friends and new ones alike out there! It was fun sitting with Georgie and her Mommies Jubilee! How ya doing Double D??? And now, I thought your other friend's name was Amy, but I saw her refered to as Tammy here?!?!? You'll have to straighten me out on that one! LOL But I won't forget Double D (Debbie)!!! What a good sport she was and they were both so much fun!
I made the rounds and chatted with everyone I could! It was good to meet Cyber and Janice….had fun talking with you two! And it was good to see Jan & Kim out there for a while too…..sorry I didn’t get too much time to talk with ya though. Same with Barb……I got to see you for a little while, but not nearly as long as I would have liked! But, there IS always next time!
Then, I had the awesome pleasure of getting to help out behind the scenes for the Drag Show! WOW! What an experience! I would do it again in a heartbeat! I had the privilege of helping in the dressing room of the two hottest new stars around……….the Drag Kings……..A.K. West and Brock Hard!!!!!! Did you hear it sizzling out there? I think they singed that wooden stage with all that heat!!!
It was amazing to watch the transformation! You two were the BEST!!!! Although Mr. West had a bit of the nerves, once he was out there he performed like the pro that he is……..the energy that was out there during his performances was electric! And I don’t think anyone would have known that it was Brock’s first performance ever!!! He was out there struttin his stuff and causing a stir with the ladies! Yes, the tensions were high, but these two stars pulled off quite a show! And I believe that it was the talk of the festival……..and outside of the festival! We stopped by at Local Flavor later that evening and we were out on the balcony. A group of folks were walking and stopped right underneath us and then I heard it……….”Brock Hard”!!!!! Oh, what was this, I thought?!?!? I wish I could have heard all that was said, but I got the general impression that they were thrilled with the show……..I heard the words “Brock Hard”, “Drag Kings”, “Oh yeah”, “riot” along with lots of laughing and smiles………y’all were a HIT and I sure hope that you will consider doing it again (and letting me help)!!!!
When the drag show was over (the queens were their wonderful selves as usual) it was back to more friends and fun until it looked as if a lot of folks were leaving. Like I said, we ended up at Local Flavor just before they closed. They were nice enough to let us out on the balcony so that I could smoke (Thank You Local Flavor)!!! Our waiter was cool and we knew just what we wanted! Now, I have to thank Lee & Kel for this…………we finally took your advice and ordered the baked brie!!! OMG.…I thought I had died and went to heaven!!! Thank you Lee & Kel! WOWZA!!!!! If you haven’t tried it yet……DO IT!!!! Mmm, mmmm!!!
Then it was back to Sherwood to drop Ann off and see if anyone had any late night plans! Ann crashed in our room and Leslie and I went out to see if anyone was around! We noticed that Blue and Frankie were still up and about in their room talking to Renate so we stopped in at Cottage #2 for some chitchat! Dawn popped in for a minute too. We had fun talking and joking and then it was getting late so we said our good nights and off we went. We didn’t get too far cause by that time Darci and “Brock” were back and they were out in the parking lot talking to Georgie. We joined in for a while and I think we talked until almost 2 a.m.
On Sunday we were back at the Smokehouse………but only after coffee first at Sherwood! I love those morning gatherings! We went over a little earlier this morning however, cause it was time to meet Carrie and Rick over there to visit before she had to go to work! And they even had Chris with them so I got to see my boyfriend! Not only that, but I got to meet Cindy’s new daughter Amanda! What a pleasure that was……she was very quiet, but I think it’s just hard to get a word in edgewise when Carrie and I are together! LOL
It was another yummy breakfast at the Smokehouse and we always have fun with “Name That Tune”!!! And somehow Sparky even got PANCAKES!!! Ann got a great pic of him with his plate of pancakes and as soon as she sends me a copy I’ll try and post! Now, by this second morning Danny was getting even more comfortable and after I made my way over to the coffeepot once, Danny took over and was serving coffee to all of us! What a gent!
Of course, after that it was time to head back to Sherwood to get packed and ready to go. We found out that Leslie didn’t have to be back until Tuesday so we spent some time in town. Spent most of it over at Tattoo’s Eureka Style yakkin with my Carrie……can’t get enough of her on these trips! Then Leslie and Ann wandered over to TTD for some fudge!
It was sad having to leave….it always is though! Big hugs were passed out and promises to return soon. We were on the road by 3:00 and sad to see Eureka in the rear view mirror.
We took our time going back……stopped just outside of St. Louis for the night. Then it was an uneventful trip to drop Ann off and then make our way back to Chicago! Although, we did do a couple of fun things on the way home! Leslie and I are addicted to Sonic…..gotta have our fix! So, we stopped for a late lunch/early supper at one. Of course we got the tater tots! So, seeing that is Darci’s new nickname I got on the phone and had to tell her that we were eating tater tots!!!! Got the voice mail so we left her a fun message! Now, as we were getting out of the truck to spend the night later that evening, what should roll out from under the seat? Yep, a tater tot!!! I laughed and tossed it out! Well another 200 miles down the road the next morning, it was time to stop for a potty break…….you guessed it……there was another tater tot rolling out!!!! Darci, we just kept thinking of you the whole way back!! Couldn’t shake ya (not that we’d want to!)!!!! So, Darci, if you start getting periodic phone calls from me…..it’s just to tell you we’re eating tater tots for dinner!!! LOL
To all my old friends…..Carrie & Rick, Chris, Cindy, Nita, Renate & Nick, Lee & Kel, Dawn & Michael, Georgie, Frankie, Blue, Denise & Matt, Darci & Joleen, Katie & Jeannie, Lita, (Oh, and I know I saw Christian & Debbie there, but only got a chance to say hi), Carrie & Aaron, Karen & Tom, Barb, Jan & Kim, my cousin Ann, and anyone else who is slipping my mind at this time……it was so good to see you and collect on all those hugs you’ve been saving up for me! I can’t wait to get down there again and do it all over!
To all the new friends I got to make……Sparky, Danny, Alana, Yvette & Shelly, Angela & Lisa, Amanda, Cyber & Janice (sorry Cyber….your name jumped right out of my head….I know someone told me, but oops!), Robyn (we didn’t really get introduced, but we were talking a bit behind the scenes getting the numbers ready for the kings)Amy/Tammy (???)…..and oh, good Lord, anyone else that I have missed (it gets blurry after a while)……it was good to meet you all and I hope that we get a chance to get to know each other better next time!
To my daughter, Leslie……..it was a pleasure having you join us for your first Diversity Weekend ever!!! I was proud to show you off……you are one very sweet young woman! And yes, I said woman!!! (she scolded me for saying young lady before……”no mom, I’m a young woman!!!) NO……she’s still MY baby! It was a pleasure, my daughter, and I can’t wait til our trip in June……I love you!
So, there you have it! One REALLY LONG trip report! Like I’ve said before….I don’t know any other way to do it! Eureka always gives me so much to write about and when you are with the great people that I was with all weekend it’s really hard to stop going on about it! You mean the world to me!
Thank you Eureka……thank you friends!!!!!
