It hit a little before 6PM, lasted about 2 minutes, & left incredible damage, power outages & gas leaks in its wake!!! Primarily hit was S. Main St. & lower Spring St. Hwy. 62 is still closed to traffic up by the high school junction & will stay closed until sometime tomorrow morning!! Here's a link to BTG for some awesome pictures. The second pic is directly across from my shop.

The second link, to GF, has more on the story. (I started by posting on the TG thread, then thought maybe ALL of you would like to know what's happening.......)

Glad no one is hurt, but that's weird that storm coming up like that and doing so much damage in just a brief period of time.

With the fire and now this? Wonder how long it will take before some moron from the "religious left" makes a stupid statement saying that this is Gods way of punishing ES for all its moraly wrong ways? :x

good morning mmouse,
I viewed the pics you posted - What a strange weather event.
Microburst?

becsflowers, on GF, explained on the GF thread just what a microburst is.......& being down there when it hit, I can say, that yep, it felt like we were all gonna be flattened!!!! The pictures were taken by Tom Tharp, aka Carriage Guy, one of our most colorful locals. ;)
Apparently, I'll be able to go down Benton St. to get to work today IF I can go across the intersection to get to it. Tom says, in his latest report, that Hwy. 62 is STILL closed to all traffic & that we are now having a MAJOR problem with the semis trying to get to their destination & no real way to get around this one intersection......... :(
I was unfamiliar with the 'microburst' term also, until a few years ago when one hit in a K.C. suburb........wow. Pretty awesome event.
I took a gander at the photos. Although it's pretty impressive, it could have been a lot worse. (yes, I suppose that's a subjective statement - especially to those whose property was damaged! And eqully easy for someone a couple hundred miles away to say.)
I just hope nobody was hurt.

OH I am so glad no one was hurt! I too have had an exoerience with a microburst. It whipped around my house (literally) I was on the porch and saw it! and took out a HUGE 100 year old tree in my side yard which proceeded to land in between everything and not damage anyhting (car, house, lattice work, many flowers and bushes) except for one lilac tree! You just never know! AND I thought the same thing about the religous lefts out there!

:D As it has been said before, glad noone was hurt. Was there any damage done around Renate and Nick and Lee and Kel?
Those were some awesome pictures that were taken!

No damage at Sherwood or Kel's (I think--didn't look like it anyway). The storm started right before all of us (I live by Sherwood) & THEN grew so we lucked out. I have an acre of fully wooded land just one block down from Nick & Renata & we only had some small branches down. I do believe, however, that that was probably the fastest my husband has ever moved to bring the Boxers in...!!! 8)
The only injuries were a car that hit a tree instead of the fool who had stopped dead in the middle of the highway &.....  a flattened Harley..
With all the glass exploding into the streets, I can't believe no one got hit! We were finally allowed back into our shop early this morning to air out any lingering gas from the broken lines behind us, & Hwy. 62 reopened at 4AM, much to the relief of the truckers stranded on either side of the intersection for 10 hours.

Thanks for caring and asking Angela and thanks for answering Mickey.
There was a lot of breakage to my flowers, we had a half a tree come down onto our garage roof and our sun umbrellas got snapped by the
strong winds.
This was one scary situation coming out of nowhere.
I talked to Lee and Kel.
Other than being without electricity and therefore no A/C on that hot night until 1 am, there was no damage at the Tradewinds.
It's amazing nobody got seriously injured with stuff flying everywhere.
Let's hope something like this will never happen again.

OH NO not the gardens. I love the flowers that are always blooming. How bad was the damage to the garage?

I cut some stuff down and a lot of the coleus I can root and plant again.
The pots will recover.
Luckily there was no damage to the roof. However, it cost $ 300 to have the tree removed.

 :( That really stinks, but at least you two are alright and didn't have anything real severe.
And your welcome-you all are our family away from home and we think a lot of you.

oh my renate, when i called you didn't tell me about the garage. i could have had matt come up and we would have figured a way to get the tree off without paying $300. i was worried about the log cabin, but renate sured me it was ok. again, glad no one was physically hurt.

You know Denise, I was so worried about my flowers and tomatoes and peppers and we were so busy cleaning up all the debris and broken limbs from the big trees in the parking lot and the hollow that I didn't even look at the garage.
Nick needed to get something out of it in the early afternoon and there it was. Talk about an O M G moment! We stood there with out mouths hanging open staring in disbelieve at the tree draped over the building.
We were afraid the weight would damage the roof and needed it off asap.
It was too heavy for us to do without the proper equipment.
Thanks for all the concern. It's very much appreciated.
The flowers will recover. The tree is gone. The roof is fine.
It looks like nothing ever happened.

The only injuries were a car that hit a tree instead of the fool who had stopped dead in the middle of the highway &..... a flattened Harley.....
Well, actually it turns out that there was one injury........ME!! When the wind hit us I was almost thrown off my feet. The only thing that saved me was grabbing a bar that's in front of the window, & hanging on for dear life.........what I didn't realize until Saturday, was that I had severely strained & possibly torn most of the muscles from my shoulder blade in back, all the way over the shoulder & onto the front of my chest!!! I was fine on Friday, but by Saturday was sore & achy. By Sunday I was in agony & when I managed to get in to my chiropractor on Monday, well let's just say that in 14 years of treating me (& helping me avoid paralysis), this was only the second time she's seen me cry from the pain......
So I'm now in a sling, taking mega doses of Ibuprofin (I refuse to use/take prescription pain killers) & using tons of "pain patches". I'll survive (again) 8) but it hurt soooo bad, non-stop, that when I walked in, I told her to "make the pain stop or shoot me, but DO SOMETHING!!!" and then I burst into tears! I have an extremely high tolerance to pain, but believe me, labor pain was better; at least you got a break inbetween.....
So what did I do after she fixed me??? I figured NOTHING else could hurt that bad, so I paid a visit to Tattoo Carrie............
See y'all at DW..........

Here I am, a 56 year old granny of 12 & I just got my very FIRST TATTOO!!!! Y'all are so funny in your thinking of what I got........Boxers on my butt(shorts)......
Actually Blue was closest, but wrong....I'm gonna see if Carrie can do "my little mouse" withOUT the cheese stuffed in its face next, but this time, honestly y'all, you just don't read GF enough I guess.. .........what's my sign-off???
Semper Fi, right? I'm a Marine daughter AND a Marine mother so I got the Marine insignia; the eagle, globe & anchor. AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!! Later on, I'm going to have her add "Father" at the top & "Son" at the bottom, which leaves plenty of room for any grandkids who may join up. (& since my oldest grandkid just turned 19, that's not too farfetched!!)
Angela & Lisa got to see it........'CAUSE THEY WERE IN TOWN TODAY!!!!!!!!! And Debbie & Margie were in & got to see it too, but y'all haven't "met" them yet.....they're without a computer right now, but are soon to be our newest locals.....YEEHAAAAWWWW!!
Anyway, can y'all tell how excited I am over this???!!!
I've wanted one all my life, but I've got extremely rare blood & as a regular donor, I've never been willing to take the chance of being uneligible at a time of need, but I was recently "denied the right to donate", so, here I am, having a ball!! Just wait for my little Marine to come home for a visit.....he's gonna die!!! 8)

oooooooh, Sparky!! Control yourself!!!
It's like the girls said; just below the elbow & my mousey will go on the other arm in the same place. I figure at my age & with my penchant for living in tees, that I'm gonna have them where they can be seen but not be too terribly obvious........
Sparky, I DID tell you about the bumble bee a boyfriend had on his.......didn't I? 8)

Eek, Mouse! How'd I miss this post about your injury?!!! That type of injury is so very painful! What a large stone on your life path! Glad to hear you like your tat, though. Sounds fitting. I've wanted one for years and years, but never could decide on one single image that I'd want to live with for the rest of my life, or a place to put it where it wouldn't sag or wrinkle eventually! Smilin' Jack wanted to give me one for free some years ago, but I remained indecisive.

Some friends advised me to get a cream they've used in the past with great success: "Wobenzym N".........it's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! And then, because they know me so well, they went & got one for me & brought it to my shop!!! 8)
It was incredible!! Totally natural & the active ingredient is menthol. The first night I didn't notice very much at the time, but when I got up the next morning, it was like the injury had never happened!! I rubbed some more in before work, quit taking the mega-doses of Ibuprofin, & made it thru the whole day without an ache!!! Just to be sure, I used it at night for the next few, & am still pain free after NOT using it the last 2 days! I see my chiro tomorrow & will find out then how I'm doing, but I can tell you, this stuff will have a permanent place in my home!!!
The pharmacy says it's only been available for a few years.
