"DANTE'S COVE" good campy naked fun
new on DVD
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
Some movies are camp, some are horror, some are cheesy and some have beautiful naked people of both sexes doing all kinds of wild things to each other. "Dante's Cove' (Regent Releasing) has all of these and what's more, it is fun--good and scary and naked and cheesy and campy and lots of FUN. It's the same kind of fun that we had with that awful cult soap opera "Dark Shadows" with the exception that this is just much more fun--at least if you don't take it seriously. It is a modern day soap opera which takes place in Laguna Beach California (where there is no shortage of beautiful people). The young denizens there wind up in a world of mystery and romances that shift the way we do when we play musical chairs. Kevin (Gregory Michael) opens a trap door at the Hotel Dante and unleashes a multitude of evil forces on the community. And with this unleashing we have melodrama, eroticism and ultra high camp. There are gorgeous bodies everywhere and all of them manage to get naked at some time during the course of the movie. In as much, the movie satisfies our voyeuristic tendencies--beautiful women for the women, handsome and sexy men for the men (and yes, you can see everything) and a little of each for the bisexuals. And the sexual action is evenly distributed between the man-man love scenes and the girl on girl action. I like watching when a director manages to satisfy all tastes. It is photographed beautifully, the music is fabulous (although a little campy) and what is missing n the acting is made up for by so many other good qualities that you hardly notice.
Up to this point only season one has been released. If season two can get any hotter than season one, we have a hit on our hands. Not as sleek as "Queer as Folk" or "The L Word", "Dante's Cove" is fascinating in its own way. Members of the cast include Tracy Scoggins, Charlie David and Steven Amell (major hunks), Gregory Michael (a hunk), William Gregory Lee (another hunk), Nadine Heimann and Josh Berresford (yet another hunk) as well as the beautiful Zara Taylor. The whole business was directed by Sam Irvin. The haunting theme song "Dying to Be with You" will remain with you long after you turn off your DVD player.
I love this movie. I enjoyed every moment of it and can't wait until I see the chapters yet to come. I think you will as well.DANTE'
