View Full Version : Lodging to stay away from!

Yikes! Just wanted to share an experience we had today over the phone with one of Eureka Springs's lodging owners.

My boyfriend and I have been looking for a place to stay for the Fall Diversity Weekend. We haven't had much luck since we started looking late as most places that we liked were already booked. I was looking over the different diversity websites yesterday and noticed one place in particular in the diversity friendly lodging section: Harken Building (http://www.texacobungalow.com/harken.html).

Last night, we booked the room but we got a phone call today from an INCREDIBLY RUDE Ms. Greene. Evidently, there was a problem charging one night's stay to our credit card...

We were aggressively told that she was cancelling our reservation and asked why would anyone use a "bad" credit card to make a reservation. There was no "Do you have another card we can hold the room with?" or "Can you read the card number to me again to make sure I have the correct numbers?", just accusations and aggression. She said that she was cancelling the reservation unless we had another card to use. Jason told her that it didn't matter if we had another card or not, we would NEVER stay in a place where the owner would treat potential guests like that...

The funny thing is, I'm not a customer service freak by any means. I don't expect people to bend over backwards for me, but I will not tolerate being treated with such rudeness by a business either...

I want to spread the word to NOT stay in any of her properties (Harken Building (http://www.texacobungalow.com/harken.html), Texaco Bungalow (http://www.texacobungalow.com), etc . . .). I've used these boards before to find a place to stay when visiting so want to spread the word to others who may be doing the same thing. Hell, this is our 4th trip to Eureka Springs this year alone! Haha!

We were trying to find a place that was listed as a sponsor, or Diversity friendly, that was still available at this late date, and which appealed to us but we decided to book at Rogue's Manor. We've stayed there before and loved it, and should have just called them to begin with.

Anyway, looking forward to a great weekend! See y'all there!

Dang cubby Todd! The Texaco is just a few short blocks from me, that's the bad news. The good news is the Rogue's suites are even closer to my 8 man bed, about 5 minutes.

Seriously, and even I dunt take myself seriously, sorry for your bad experience. I hope and know youse two DW weekend will erase the memory of that lodging.....what was it's name?

As a kid, I remember....

"Always trust your car
To a MAN who wears a star
A big, bright Texaco star!"

Those ad boys were always hunky.

Any way, welcome home. So does this mean my bed is empty? Dang!

Oh man sorry to hear of this, lets hope that they might have been just having a bad day. We all do from time to time. I hope that is not the way they run business all the time.

I can say this because I own a Corvette, but do you know the difference between a porcupine and a Corvette........ The pricks are on the out side of the porcupine.

The rudest weekend in this town is Corvette weekend. I stay out of town for this weekend. No need getting so upset.

Sorry to hear of your unpleasant experience. These properties are gay owned, and great places to stay. Hope the rest of your experience here is a good one.

Todd I am so sorry to hear about that. I'm glad you found a place to stay at Rouge's. Did you know the owner of Rouge's manor is the father of Fatima who own's our sponsor The Pied Piper? (I should know. It's where I asked my fiancee to marry me Fall DW 05) If you'll check out the websites you'll notice there's links at the top for each of the other's sites. So sorry again, and I hope that you do not see anymore of this. I've been to the town many times and can tell you that this is not the norm.

Thank You Ken!

It is great to see a business person hop right on something with an apology - it seems to be rare this day - so i really appreciate you doing that!

Have a great week!

Well, thank you guys. Don't worry, other than this recent experience, I've had absolutely nothing negative to say about ES and it's not anything that will ever hold us back from making our many visits!

Ken, thank you so much for what you wrote. Was very nice to read your post.

I apologize for this reply being so short, but we are minutes away from our road trip to Orlando... Gotta finish packing the car, and head out. But when we get back, we have just 5 short days until we head out on the road again, this time to . . . EUREKA SPRINGS! WOOHOOO!

I'll be checking back a couple of times while in Florida, but not as often as when I'm home, so bear with me on the replies..

Thanks again, everyone and can't wait to see y'all!!!

:D It is nice to see an owner make a formal apology; it is so very rare. Have fun on your trip to Orlando.
