I heard of “The Joan Crawford Murders” by coincidence. I read something on a website, wrote to the author and he told me that it was available at the Little Rock Public Library and sure enough it was. So home I went with the book to read about Tinseltown, 1953. I learned that this is the second book in a proposed Tinseltown Trilogy by Swanson.
Joan Crawford is back at MGM Studios making “Torch Song”, her first technicolor movie. She knows that she is not so young anymore and she does not care for either the script or her leading man but she is determined to keep her fans happy. She knows that she must be vibrant and alive so she takes diet pills (super strength) and washes them down with vodka. She soon finds that is seeing double and no wonder.
To make things even more interesting is that there is a murderer on the loose who looks like Joan Crawford and people are just not sure who the real Joan Crawford is. In fact, Crawford herself is not sure which is which. Because of this she hires a gangster by the name of Al. It seems that the Crawford look alike (a man in drag) wants to get rid of all of the other drag queens dressing as Crawford. It’s confusing I know but it is also fun and a delightful way to pass some time.
