Contrary to the Rogers Morning News story on the DPR, I wasn't the one who "came up with" the idea for the Registry.
That was a collective effort involving me, Jan, Kim & Sparky.
And contrary to the headline, the DPR is anything but old news. Almost 400 individuals from 11 states have signed up--adding thousands of dollars to the city's treasury and tens of thousands to the local economy. More importantly, they place a premium on having their relationships officially recognized by a municipality--the only one in the state.
The ACLU thinks the DPR is important enough to fly Jan and Kim to Washington, DC this past weekend to tell the DPR story. And I've been invited to speak on the issue at the Pride celebration in Fayetteville later this month.
That we've only had one couple from Fayetteville register for the DPR disappoints me. Maybe it means we're just not doing enough to spread the word to the neighboring communities. Please, whenever you get the chance, mention it on the other forums, blogs and chat rooms you visit.
Keeping the issue alive on-line allows other communities in Arkansas and nationwide to get accustomed to the notion of domestic partnerships. That way, when the idea comes up in their towns it doesn't seem radical because it has already been done successfully in Eureka Springs and scores of other cities, towns and counties throughout America.

I know of at least three couples from Fayetteville who have registered. At least they live in Fayetteville now. You would think there would be more.
